The Yuan Qingju 袁清举

Yuan Qingju was a native of Fengxiang in Xiqin (now part of Shaanxi Province) during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty.

His Taoist monastic name was Yangju, and his Taoist title was Jiuyang. He was known in his hometown for his filial piety. On his travels, he encountered an extraordinary person who instructed him on the path to immortality, after which he abandoned his family to practice Taoism.

He entered Jingfu Mountain to become a Taoist priest, accumulating merits and practicing virtuous deeds. After more than ten years, he traveled again to Zhongnan Mountain and Laojun Mountain, then visited Xidu (the Western Capital), and later lived in seclusion on Qingcheng Mountain. His reputation as a Taoist master grew increasingly prominent over time. In the 53rd year of the Kangxi reign (1714), when the Lvshi (Precept Master) Mu Qingfeng established a precept platform at Zitong Palace to enlighten both humans and celestial beings, Yuan Qingju received the Major Precepts after the completion of the three-tiered precept ceremonies. In the 56th year (1717), when Qingfeng was seriously ill, he transmitted the great Taoist teachings to Qingju, who thus became the 11th-generation precept-transmitting Lvshi.

In the 6th year of the Yongzheng reign (1728), Yuan Qingju traveled again to Jingfu Mountain in Shaanxi, where he established a precept platform. In the 8th year (1730), he held the platform three more times, transmitting precepts to his disciples and greatly promoting the traditions of the Longmen (Dragon Gate) School.
