The Zhang Boting 张伯亭

Paul Peng

Zhang Boting was a native of Quzhou (now part of Zhejiang Province) during the early Ming Dynasty.

He styled himself "Hulu Daoren" (Taoist of the Gourd).

He was registered as a Taoist priest at Yuanmiao Guan (Yuanmiao Taoist Temple) and later served as the Duji (chief administrator) of the temple.

He was proficient in the Thunder Magic and talisman-incantation arts, and his prayers were highly effective. During the Yongle reign (1403-1424), he was ordered by the imperial edict to preside over Xuantian Yuxu Palace on Wudang Mountain.
