The Zhang Cizheng 张慈正

The Zhang Cizheng 张慈正

Paul Peng
Zhang Cizheng, the 14th Heavenly Master of the Zhengyi School (a major school of Taoism). His courtesy name was Ziming, and he was the eldest son of Zhang Guang.
He was extraordinarily intelligent in his childhood. When he grew up, he often taught others the doctrines of Taoism based on the I Ching (the Book of Changes). He was fond of giving alms to the poor. The imperial court summoned him repeatedly to take up official posts, but he firmly declined and refused to accept. He dedicated himself to Taoist practice and was proficient in the "huangbai technique" (a Taoist alchemical art of transmuting base metals into gold or silver).

He passed away at the age of over 100. In the 13th year of the Zhizheng era (1353) of Emperor Shun of the Yuan Dynasty, he was posthumously conferred the title of "Taixuan Shangde Zixu True Lord".
