The Zhang Gao 张高

Zhang Gao was a figure of the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). His courtesy name was Chongzhan, and he styled himself "Daoren Xijian" (the "Taoist of the Western Stream").

As recorded in Gazetteer of Xianju County (Xianju Xianzhi): In his youth, he studied the Confucian classics intensively and had a particular interest in medicine and pharmacology. After becoming a Taoist Priest, he traveled around famous mountains and great rivers across the country. Later, he met Wang Yingzi, who taught him The Eight Essentials Formula (Ba Su Jue—a likely Taoist or medical text focusing on core principles of cultivation or healing). Zhang Gao treated people with his medical skills, and his reputation spread widely throughout the counties and townships where he lived.
