The Zhang Hao 张皓

The Zhang Hao 张皓

Paul Peng
Zhang Hao (?-127), styled Wenming (also known as Zhiming), was a native of Runan (present-day Runan, Henan Province) during the reign of Emperor An of the Eastern Han Dynasty.
According to records in The Stele of Biographies of the Ancestral Masters of Louguan and The Stele Inscription of True Immortals, during the Yongchu period (107-113), an imperial edict was issued to select hermits to become Taoists. Zhang Hao, then twenty years old, was among those selected. He studied under Feng Heng, who taught him the Dao of Empty Qi and Golden Embryo, The Blue Essentials and Purple Book, The Golden Root Classic, and gave him half a liang (a unit of weight) of divine elixir. He then entered Mount Chicheng to take the elixir and practice Taoism.

After practicing for several years, he gained the ability to hear clearly from afar, see through things, and perform unpredictable transformations. He passed away in the first year of the Taihe period of Emperor Ming of Wei (227) and was conferred the title of "Supreme Pure High Immortal True Person" in Taoism.
