The Zhang Jianming 张荐明
Paul PengShare
Zhang Jianming was a native of Yan (now part of Hebei Province) during the Five Dynasties period.
In his youth, he traveled around the Heshuo region (the area north of the Yellow River) engaging in Confucian studies; later, he became a Taoist priest.

Emperor Gaozu (of the Later Jin Dynasty) invited him into the Inner Palace to lecture on Tao Te Ching, and bestowed upon him the Taoist title "Mr. Tongxuan" (Mr. Penetrating the Mysterious).
He authored Annotations on the Song of Elixir and Golden Fluid, a work that elaborates on the theory of external alchemy (a Taoist practice of refining minerals and herbs to create elixirs for immortality).
