The Zhang Jingyuan 张景渊

Zhang Jingyuan was the 33rd Heavenly Master of the Zhengyi Sect (Orthodox Unity Sect) of Taoism.

His original given name was Bojing, with the courtesy name Deying. He was the eldest son of Zhang Shouzhen.

Born with a tall and dignified stature, he had handsome whiskers and a prominent jade-like occiput (a facial feature considered auspicious in traditional Chinese culture). People of his time remarked that he embodied the noble demeanor characteristic of the Zhengyi Sect.

During the Qiandao era of the Song Dynasty (1165–1173), he accompanied his father to the imperial court. Emperor Xiaozong was deeply impressed by him and thus granted him the new given name "Jingyuan".

The emperor also bestowed upon him the responsibility of presiding over Taoist rituals (zhujiao) in the imperial palace. When he expounded on Taoist doctrines and performed rituals, his practices often yielded miraculous results. Emperor Xiaozong highly praised him and conferred generous rewards, later appointing him to oversee the "Three Yuan" teachings—a core ritual system of the Zhengyi Sect centered on the three major Taoist festivals (the 15th day of the 1st, 7th, and 10th lunar months).

In the 10th year of the Zhizheng era of the Yuan Dynasty (1350), he was posthumously awarded the honorific title "Chongxu Taisu Chongdao Zhenjun" (True Lord of Profound Emptiness, Primordial Purity, and Devoted Cultivation of the Dao).
