Zhang Shiyuan was the 18th Heavenly Master of the Zhengyi School. His courtesy name was Zhongliang, and he was the eldest son of Zhang Yi.
In his youth, he was well-versed in Confucian classics and historical records. He resided in Yingtian Mountain of Shangqing Township for forty years, after which he began to study Taoism and inherit the position of Heavenly Master. He practiced Taoist rituals, cured illnesses with talisman water, and passed down the Taoist ordination certificates (Lulu) to the world to deliver and save people.
He lived to the age of ninety-two.
In the 13th year of the Zhizheng era of the Yuan Dynasty (1353), he was posthumously awarded the title "Zhenjun of Profound Emptiness, Bright Taoism and Praiseworthy Merit" (Source: The Genealogy of the Han Heavenly Masters).
