The Zhang Wumeng 张无梦

Zhang Wumeng lived at the end of the Five Dynasties and the beginning of the Northern Song Dynasty. He was a native of Fengxiang, with the courtesy name Lingyin and the literary name Hongmengzi. He was a Taoist priest at Kaiyuan Temple in Yongjia.
In his youth, he went to Huashan Mountain, where he formed a spiritual friendship (beyond secular ties) with Liu Haichan and Zhong Fang. He studied under Chen Xiyi (Chen Tuan) as his teacher, and later went to Tiantai Mountain to dedicate himself to quiet learning and cultivation.

His Taoist thoughts were based on the principle of "prioritizing tranquility". Integrating the doctrines of Buddhism and Taoism, he proposed: "Those who seek to enter the Gate of Xuanpin (the mysterious origin of all things in Taoism) and search for the Pearl of Chishui (a symbol of the Dao, or the ultimate truth) must embrace the natural principles of heaven, restrain all evil thoughts, eliminate all abnormal distractions, and ultimately return to the state of preserving simplicity and maintaining tranquility. They should pursue tranquility upon tranquility, until they attain the state of 'Oneness' (the unified origin of the universe in Taoist philosophy).
…… 'Oneness' and the Dao are inherently in a state of natural spontaneity.
Therefore, the supreme spirit has no fixed form, the supreme Dao has no tangible body, and one achieves 'inaction' (non-interference with natural laws) yet accomplishes everything."

He authored Qiongtai Poetry Collection, which was circulated in the world.
He also wrote a hundred poems in Huanyuan Pian (Essay on Returning to the Origin), expounding on the alchemical methods of Chen Tuan. He passed away in Jinling at the age of ninety.
