The Zhanjian School 占验派

Zhanjian School
A Taoist school mainly specializing in the inheritance and practice of divination and prognosticatory arts. During the Han Dynasty, the Xiangshu (image-numberology) of the I Ching reached its peak, gradually giving rise to various types of divination and prognosticatory arts, collectively known as Shushu (occult arts). Taoists who inherited and practiced these divination and prognosticatory arts formed the Taoist Zhanjian School. These arts include Qimen Dunjia (esoteric metaphysics), Liugan Ke (six-stem divination), Taiyi Shenshu (divine numbers of Great Unity), Liuyao Yizhan (hexagram divination), Wenwang Ke (King Wen's divination), fortune-telling, physiognomy, Kanyu (feng shui), Tuchen (prophetic diagrams and cryptic sayings), cloud-watching, qi-observation, and so on, which are used to predict good or bad luck and fortune or misfortune in social events and human affairs. Famous Taoists of the Zhanjian School include Guan Lu, Guo Pu, Li Chunfeng, Yuan Tiangang, and others.

The Zhanjian School was mostly associated with Immortal Taoism or folk Taoism. In later generations, the Quanzhen School only focused on internal alchemy and did not advocate divination and prognostication.
