Zhao Daoxiang lived during the Taiding period of the Yuan Dynasty (1324-1327).

He was granted a purple brocade robe trimmed with lace (a garment known as "zijin lan" in Chinese, a symbol of imperial favor and high status) and bestowed the honorific title "Great Master of Cultural Radiance, Collective Illumination, and Upholding Righteousness" (Wenming Jizhao Fengyi Dashi).

He also served as the "Tidian" (administrative supervisor) of the Northern Yue Temple (a sacred temple dedicated to the Northern Yue, one of China’s traditional Five Great Mountains).
