The Zhao Youqin 赵友钦

The Zhao Youqin 赵友钦

Paul Peng
Zhao Youqin was a native of Raozhou during the Yuan Dynasty.

His Taoist title was Yuanduzi. He was proficient in everything from astronomical phenomena and the study of celestial coordinates to geography and divination arts.

He studied under Zhang Ziqiong (Zhang Mo, whose Taoist title was Ziqiong Zhenren) and received the teachings of the Golden Elixir Dao (the profound doctrine of Taoist inner alchemy for immortality). He also collected numerous books, classics and commentaries, and compiled Xian Fo Tong Yuan (Immortals and Buddhas Share the Same Origin), in which he expounded the theory that Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism are of one family (the idea that the three major doctrines share a common essence).

In addition, he wrote works such as Jin Dan Wen Nan (Questions and Debates on the Golden Elixir), which were circulated among the people.

Later, he resided in Hengyang, where he passed on the wonderful principles of the Golden Elixir to Chen Zhixu, whose Taoist title was Shangyangzi.
