Zhao Yu

A native of Shu (the Sichuan Basin region) during the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

He lived in seclusion and practiced Taoism on Mount Qingcheng, where his Taoist attainments became prominent and widely recognized. According to Qingcheng Shan Zhi (Records of Mount Qingcheng), during the reign of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, he was appointed as the Grand Administrator of Jiayang, and achieved notable accomplishments in governing the region.
When the Sui Dynasty fell into chaos (in the late Sui period), he retreated into seclusion, and his final whereabouts became unknown.
Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty posthumously conferred upon him the title "Qingyuan Miaodao Zhenjun" (True Lord of the Clear Source and Marvelous Dao).
