Zhao Zhigu lived during the Zhizhi period of the Yuan Dynasty (1321-1323).

He held the Taoist sobriquet "Baozhenzi" (Master of Preserving Truth) and was bestowed the honorific title "Great Master of Penetrating Mystery" (Tongxuan Dashi). Additionally, he was granted a purple robe trimmed with gold (a garment known as "ziyi jinlan" in Chinese, a symbol of high religious and social status in ancient China).
