Author unknown. It is believed to have been composed between the Tang and Song dynasties.
Consisting of one volume, it is included in the Methods Section of the Dongshen Division in the Daozang (Daoist Canon).

Purporting to be a teaching delivered by Lord Laozi, this scripture expounds on the practice of reciting scriptures and incantations, as well as visualizing deities to protect one’s body. With a text of only seven hundred characters, its core message holds that by visualizing the Three Souls, Seven Ethereal Souls, and the deities presiding over the five zang-organs and six fu-organs within one’s body, practitioners can summon divine protection, enjoy peace whether sitting or lying down, keep their souls and ethereal souls healthy and tranquil, ward off evil spirits and expel ghosts, and ultimately attain unity with the Dao.
