The Zheng Shangcheng 郑上乘

Zheng Shangcheng (1700–?) was a native of Guangning in Liaodong (a historical region in present-day western Liaoning Province) during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty. As recorded in Genealogy of the Nanwu Taoist Sect, his courtesy name was Yuchao and his literary name was Jiulingzi.

In his childhood, he studied Confucian classics and was able to comprehend the principles of the I Ching (the Book of Changes).

In his middle age, he took the imperial civil service examination (the "juzike" examination for scholar-officials) but failed to pass. Later, he traveled around as a wanderer and arrived at Chaoyang Cave on Hu Mountain. There, he met Luo Xiaoyuan, converted to the Nanwu Sect, and inherited its teachings, eventually becoming the 15th Patriarch of the Nanwu Sect.
