The Zheng Suonan 郑所南

The Zheng Suonan 郑所南

Paul Peng
Zheng Suonan was a native of Lianjiang, Fujian, during the late Song and early Yuan dynasties.

After the fall of the Song Dynasty, he changed his given name to Sixiao, styled himself Suonan, and adopted the literary names "Sanwai Yeren" (Wanderer Beyond the Three Realms) and "Sanwai Laofu" (Old Man Beyond the Three Realms).

He wandered as a hermit outside the secular world, with no fixed whereabouts.

He compiled Taiji Jilian Neifa Yilue (A Brief Discussion on the Internal Methods of Taiji Ritual Refinement) in three volumes. In the 6th year of the Zhiyuan era (1270), the book was carved into woodblocks, printed, and distributed to circulate among the people.

His well-known disciples included Shen Zhiwo and Ma Xingzhi.
