Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Rite of National Protection and Sea Sacrifice
Author unknown. Compiled approximately during the Northern and Southern Dynasties.

Originally one of the fragmentary scrolls of Zhengyi Scripture of Methods—a classic text of early Celestial Master Daoism—the text expounds the ritual protocol for offering sacrifices to the Dragon Gods of rivers, lakes, seas and water abodes. It states that whenever the state falls into turmoil or families encounter unrest, this sacrificial rite can be held to worship the Dragon Gods, which will ensure national stability, people’s prosperity and household affluence.
Appended at the end of the text are two documents: The Supreme Numinous Treasure’s Method of Submitting Mountain Talismans to Pray for Immortality and The Supreme Numinous Treasure’s Text of Submitting Residence Talismans. These two texts elaborate on the method of casting talismans to invoke deities and having one’s sin records erased. They are suspected to be later interpolations.
