Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Supreme Outer Talisman Ritual
Author unknown. Compiled approximately during the Northern and Southern Dynasties.

Originally one of the fragmentary scrolls of Zhengyi Scripture of Methods—a classic text of Celestial Master Daoism—the book records the ritual protocols for Zhengyi Daoist priests to confer primary-level talismans. It contains The Essentials of Talisman Conferral for Five Types of Women, which elaborates on the ordination rituals for five categories of women: maidens, female ascetics, married women, widows, and women returning to their natal homes. It also includes The Essentials of Tally Conferral for Commoners and Barbarians, which details the relevant protocols for the ordination of servants, as well as ethnic minorities such as the Qiang and Rong peoples. In addition, the text describes the ritual procedures and rules to be followed after receiving advanced talismans like the Seventy-Five Generals Talisman and the One Hundred and Fifty Generals Talisman, including submitting memorials to heaven to express gratitude, observing religious precepts, performing meritorious deeds to seek advancement, and repenting for sins and transgressions.
