Zhengyi Scripture of Methods
An early classic of Celestial Master Daoism, it was compiled approximately during the Northern and Southern Dynasties.
Volume 6 of Cloudy Satchel of Seven Tablets quotes Record of Master Meng from the Liang Dynasty, which records that Zhengyi Scripture of Methods consists of 100 scrolls, divided into 10 fascicles in total.

In addition, Rituals of Cultivating the Dao in the Three Caverns by Sun Yizhong of the Northern Song Dynasty records “120 scrolls of the Scripture of Methods of Orthodox Unity”. The original text is now lost in its entirety; its scroll divisions and chapter titles are recorded in Catalogue of Lost Scriptures from the Daoist Canon.
The Zhengtong Daoist Canon currently includes nine fragmentary versions of Zhengyi Scripture of Methods, namely:
- Supreme Zhengyi Scripture of Methods
- Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Precepts and Codes of the Celestial Master
- Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Chapters and Official Ranks (4 scrolls)
- Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Rite of National Protection and Sea Sacrifice
- Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Essential Guidelines for Cultivating Perfection
- Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Rituals of the Talisman Department
- Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Rituals of Summoning with the Ten Talismans
- Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Ritual of Transmitting the Dudugan Tablet
- Zhengyi Scripture of Methods: Supreme Outer Talisman Ritual
Moreover, lost passages from Zhengyi Scripture of Methods are frequently cited in Daoist texts from the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Tang, and Song dynasties.
