The Zhou Guang 周广

The Zhou Guang 周广

Paul Peng
Zhou Guang, styled Huichang, was a native of Luling (present-day Ji'an County, Jiangxi Province) during the Eastern Jin Dynasty. He was a descendant of Zhou Yu, the great general of the State of Wu.
In his youth, he was fond of astronomy and temperament; when he grew up, he mastered the teachings of inaction and tranquility. He once traveled to Yuntain Mountain in Sichuan, where he obtained the method of expelling and eliminating evil spirits from the Heavenly Master of the Han Dynasty, and used it to relieve the sufferings of the people.
Later, upon hearing that True Lord Xu was in Jingyang, he went to become his disciple and was ordered to serve him (attending to his walking stick and shoes, a sign of close service). He practiced Taoist doctrines diligently, never slacking off from start to finish. When True Lord Xu ascended to immortality, Zhou Guang, together with Zeng Heng, rode in the dragon chariot. Later, his private residence was imperialized and renamed Yizhao Mansion.
In the second year of the Zhenghe era of Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty (1112), he was granted the title of "Yuantong Zhenren (True Man of Primordial Penetration)".
