Zhou Yuanzhen (1328-?) was a native of Jiaxing, living during the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties. His courtesy name was Yuanchu, and he held the Taoist sobriquets "Zhou Yuanzhen" and "Mr. Helin" (Master of the Crane Grove).

In his youth, he left home to study under Li Taixu, the abbot of Zixu Temple, and became a Taoist priest.

In the eighth year of the Zhizheng period (1348), he traveled as a wandering Taoist to Bao'en Taoist Abbey in Suzhou, where he resided in the Laihe Xuan (Crane-Calling Pavilion).

He studied the Lingbao Scripture and rituals under Cao Gushen, and received the esoteric Five Thunder Arts from Bu Yungang, a second-generation disciple of Mo Yueding. He was highly proficient in Taoist fasting rituals (zhaijiao) and Thunder Magic. Additionally, he could summon cranes using Taoist talismans, and his prayers for rain or clear weather were always immediately effective.

During the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1398), he was summoned to the imperial capital twice. He spent his final years at the temple until his death.
