Zhu Siying was a native of Qingpu during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and his literary name was Jiufeng Shanren (Hermit of the Nine Peaks).

After becoming a jinshi (successful candidate in the highest imperial examination) in the 18th year of the Shunzhi reign (1661), he became a Taoist Priest. He built a refined chamber on Sheshan Mountain, studied under Zhu Taikong, and practiced the doctrines and methods of Quanzhen Taoism.
