Eulogies to Various True Beings

The author of this text is unknown.

Judging from its content, it seems to have been written by Taoist priests of the Shangqing School during the Tang and Song dynasties.

It is a one-volume work and included in the "Eulogy Category" of the "Dongshen Section" in the Taoist Canon (Daozang).

This book uses poems to eulogize Taoist classics and immortal true beings. The true scriptures eulogized include The Great and Marvelous Scripture, The Scripture of Lord Lao’s Origin, The Supreme Scripture of Wisdom, The Great Precepts of Original Vows, etc.

The true beings eulogized include both male and female immortals such as the Supreme Xuanyi True Being, the Green Boy Lord, Lord Wang of Xicheng, the Queen Mother of the West, Lady Wei, Lady Wang of the Southern Pole, and Lady Li of Zhaoling.

Most of the poems recorded in this book are excerpted from the Shangqing and Lingbao scriptures of the Eastern Jin, Southern and Northern dynasties.
