Transmission of Immortality of Supreme Mother 先天玄妙玉女太上圣母资传仙道

The author is unknown, and the text was presumably composed between the Song and Yuan dynasties.

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Methods category of the Dongshen Section of The Daozang.

Transmission of Immortality of Supreme Mother

The first half of the text is excerpted from Volume Two of The Holy Record of the Primordial Fusion, framed as the Holy Mother Yuanjun instructing the Supreme Lord on the practice of the Dao to attain true enlightenment. It proclaims: "The Dao is the ultimate truth of empty penetration; skill is the mysterious art of transformation"; "The essential tenet of the Dao lies in non-action and spontaneity, and the secret of skill is nothing more than talismans and elixirs." It further states that the Holy Mother transmitted the art of the Golden Fluid Reverted Elixir to the Supreme Lord, telling him: "The way of immortality does not lie in sacrificing to and praying for ghosts and gods, nor in guided stretching and bending of the body, nor in excessive prayers and incantations, nor in tormenting oneself with intense contemplation—'the essential secret of longevity resides in the divine elixir'."

The second half is excerpted from Volume Three of The Holy Record of the Primordial Fusion, depicting the Supreme Lord imparting the Dao to Yin Xi and teaching the cultivation methods of Internal Alchemy and External Alchemy. It holds that a Taoist practitioner who attains internal alchemy may prolong their years, and one who attains external alchemy may ascend to heaven. "The Three-in-One and Nine Contemplations are the essentials of inner cultivation; the Nine Elixirs and Golden Fluid are the acme of external alchemy. Cultivate them in unison, and the attainment of the Dao is certain." The text provides an overview of the key points of both internal and external alchemy.
