What is Mysterious Identityin Taoism?

“Xuan” means dark, subtle and mysterious; “Tong” means equalizing and blending. “Mystic Unity” refers to the state and realm of being unified and blended with the great Dao.

Laozi, Chapter 56:

“Block the openings, shut the gates,

What is Mysterious Identityin Taoism?
blunt the sharpness, resolve the entanglements,

temper the light, become one with the dust —

this is called Mystic Unity.”

Only by abandoning sensory perception and erasing the distinctions of right and wrong among things can humans merge themselves with the Dao, attain the realm of Mystic Unity, and truly grasp the essential nature of the Dao and all things in heaven and earth.
