What is Supreme Harmony in Taoism?
Refers to the harmonious state of pervasive Qi experienced by Daoist practitioners.
Chen Tuan, Chapter on Directing the Mystery:
“One must know the path where East and West unite,
its critical meaning lies in Chonghe between the Upper and Lower Cinnabar Fields.”
What is Supreme Harmony in Taoism?
Discourses on the Combined Sect of Immortals and Buddhas states:
“Chonghe refers to the wonderful principle within the breath that ceases not to breathe.
It fills heaven and earth, permeates the whole body,
unobstructed by normal respiration,
unconfined by ascending and descending.”
It also says:
“Unbiased, unimpeded, without excess or deficiency,
neither hasty nor slow, neither being nor non-being…
Yin and Yang merge into one;
by day they travel together, neither ahead nor behind;
by night they dwell together, neither forced nor separated.
To awaken to this is the true samadhi of the function of Chonghe.”
