What is the Infinite in Taoism?

It refers to the primal state of the cosmos at the time when heaven and earth were not yet formed and the void was undivided.

What is the Infinite in Taoism?

Taoism holds that the cosmos originated from nothingness, a state of utter silence and formlessness, where there was no heaven or earth, no Yin and Yang. Later, Hongyuan gradually emerged from this nothingness. Though heaven and earth were still undifferentiated at this stage, the material substances constituting the world were brewing and transforming. Further differentiation within Hongyuan gave rise to Hunyuan, a more concrete and materialized state. Ultimately, through a series of complex and prolonged processes of differentiation, all things in the cosmos came into being, an evolution rooted in the operation of The Dao.
