In Laozi, the Dao is praised as:

“It moves everywhere without perishing; it may be the Mother of all under heaven.”

Mother is the Dao itself:

the foundation of all things in the cosmos, and the source from which all beings are generated.

What is the Mother in Taoism?

The concept of “Mother” in Taoism and Daoist teachings derives from reproductive worship in primitive religions of matrilineal clan societies.

It permeates both Daoist philosophy and The Dao doctrines.
