What is the Preserving Qi Unceasinglyin Taoism?

This term comes from Taiping Jing, Volume 98:

“The Way of Heaven and Earth can be long-lasting because it guards qi without ceasing.

Heaven uses qi to determine good and misfortune; all things follow this model.

What is the Preserving Qi Unceasinglyin Taoism?
Without qi, they perish.”

It holds that humans, like Heaven and Earth, are born with original qi.

Heaven and Earth guard qi without interruption and thus endure.

If humans wish to live long, they must also preserve original qi eternally.

The core of the thought of “guarding qi without ceasing” is that qi is the foundation of life.

Furthermore, eternally preserving continuous qi is seen as the only way to achieve immortality.

Many practices of moving qi, regulating qi, and refining qi in later Taoism are further developments and concrete applications of the idea of “guarding qi without ceasing”.

This idea is deeply rooted in the thought of Laozi and embodies the fundamental principle of The Dao in nurturing life.
