What is the Tao Following Nature in Taoism?什么是道法自然

What is the Tao Following Nature in Taoism

An important concept in Daoist philosophy.

It means the Dao follows its own nature, and is as it is.

Dao De Jing, Chapter 25:

“Humanity follows the earth,

the earth follows heaven,

What is the Tao Following Nature in Taoism
heaven follows the Dao,

the Dao follows Nature.”

Heshang Gong comments:

“The nature of the Dao is spontaneous; it has nothing to follow.”

The essential nature of the Dao is being spontaneous, taking “non-action” as its principle.

The Dao generates all things naturally and without effort,

not controlled by the will of a personal god.
