What is Transforming Wordsin Taoism?
Transformed Voices refer to the debates on right and wrong that shift along with external things.
What is Transforming Wordsin Taoism? This term originates from Zhuangzi·Qi Wu Lun: "The transformed voices depend on each other; if one supposes they do not depend on each other, harmonize them with the Heavenly Equality, and extend them through untrammeled elaboration—this is how one completes one’s years." To obsess over the distinctions between self and other, and the debates about praise and blame, honor and disgrace, gives rise to endless disputes over right and wrong. The complete elimination of the concepts of right and wrong lies in regarding the contradictory opposition between different right and wrong as having no opposition—that is, equalizing all things and unifying right and wrong. Harmonize right and wrong with the natural and uniform Dao: treat the right and the not-right as the same, the not-right and the right as identical; forget right and wrong, life and death, to conform to the infinite changes, thereby attaining the goal of completing one’s natural lifespan.
