Wuchengzi's Outer Vision Commentary

Originally attributed to "Annotated by Wuchengzi".

Wuchengzi was presumably a Taoist Priest during the Sui and Tang dynasties.

In the Kaiyuan reign period of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, the imperial compilation Chuxue Ji (Primer for Beginners) already quoted "Annotations on the Supreme Huangting Scripture". The existing version, in one volume, is included in Volume 12 of Yunji Qiqian (Seven Slips of the Cloud Satchel).

Wuchengzi's Outer Vision Commentary

This work divides the External Landscape Scripture of the Yellow Court into three parts: Upper, Middle, and Lower, providing sentence-by-sentence explanations of its terminology and cultivation essentials. The annotations emphasize that practitioners should cherish essence and value Qi, concentrate the spirit and uphold unity, prevent the leakage of essence and Qi, and keep the soul and spirit from departing. By constantly guarding the dantian, pathogenic factors will naturally dispel, and longevity will be attained spontaneously.

Its doctrines are consistent with the original meaning of the scripture, and the language is concise and accessible.
