Guan Ling Yinxi was a Zhou dynasty official. He was skilled in internal studies, often consuming the essence of refined substances, cultivating virtue and practicing cultivation; at that time, no one knew about it. When Laozi traveled westward, Yinxi first perceived his aura and realized that a true person would pass by. He looked for him and intercepted him; indeed, he encountered Laozi. Laozi also recognized his extraordinary nature and wrote the Tao Te Ching to give to him. Later, Yinxi traveled with Laozi through the Liusha region, transformed among the Hu people, consumed Ju shengshi (a type of plant or herb), and no one knew where he finally ended up. Yinxi also wrote nine chapters himself, titled "Guanlingzi" — known today as the Wen Shi Zhen Jing.

Yinxi guarded the pass, regarding the cultivation of virtue as his duty. He sipped and rinsed with the light of the sun, gazing upward to contemplate the profound Dao. Awaiting the aura of a true person, he alone attained sudden enlightenment. Together they crossed the Liusha region and returned to the same wondrous place.
