Caolv (straw sandals) are a type of convenient footwear woven from white linen strips or dragon's beard grass.


"There's a poem describing them: 'A thousand stems of straw sandals are naturally knotted, allowing one to wander freely among the Three Mountains and Five Sacred Peaks. Wandering carefree, never treading on bustling lands, when merits are fulfilled, one will ride the clouds up to the Nine Heavens.'"

Wearing straw sandals while wandering, or practicing meditation in mountain Taoist temples, or seeking Dao from fellow wandering Taoists, avoiding urban cities and bustling places, maintaining a heart of non-action and tranquility—this ensures that one can cultivate their Dao practice and accomplish their Daoist undertakings.
