The Ning Fengzi 宁封子 Longqiao ZhenRen

Ning Fengzi, also known as "True Person Longqiao", is a deity in Taoism. According to Liexian Zhuan (Biographies of Immortals), he was originally the official in charge of pottery-making (Taozheng) under the Yellow Emperor. Once, a divine being passed by his place and helped him control the fire, which could emit colored smoke. After a long time, the divine being taught Ning Fengzi the method, and Ning then mastered it himself. Later, Ning Fengzi let himself be consumed by accumulating fire; his form rose up with the smoke. When people looked at the ashes, his bones still remained, so they buried him in the Northern Mountain.

It is said that Ning Fengzi once served as a teacher to the Yellow Emperor, instructing him in the "Longqiao Flying Technique" (a Taoist method for flight). After ascending to immortality, Ning Fengzi resided in Mount Qingcheng in Sichuan. The Yellow Emperor once went to visit him to inquire about the "Longqiao Flying Technique".

Fan Chengda, a poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, wrote: "After traveling thirty li, we reached Qingcheng. The mountain gate is called 'Nine Chambers Cave Heaven of Precious Immortals'. We stayed overnight at Zhangren Guan (Abode of the Venerable), which is at the foot of Zhangren Peak. Five peaks stand steeply like a screen; the terraces and halls of the abode extend up to the belly of the cliff. Since the Tang Dynasty, the Venerable has been titled 'Zhangren of the Five Sacred Mountains'. Biography of Zhenjun Chufu Dingming roughly states: His surname is Ning, given name Feng, and he lived at the same time as the Yellow Emperor. The Emperor learned from him the way of Longqiao flight."

Zhao Daoyi of the Yuan Dynasty also said: "Master Ning Feng resided in the Northern Cliff of Mount Qingcheng in Sichuan, and the Yellow Emperor took him as his teacher."

Ning Fengzi was conferred the title of "True Person of the Five Sacred Mountains". His image is depicted as wearing a Gaitian Crown (a hat symbolizing covering the sky), a red-purple robe, and a Santing Seal at his waist, overseeing the Five Sacred Mountains.
