Sun Bu'er Yuanjun Fayu (also known as Sun Bu'er's Verses on the Stages of Female Inner Alchemy or Sun Bu'er's Poems on Female Alchemy) was written by Qingjing Sanren ("the Ascetic of Pure Tranquility"), who was Sun Bu'er, a literary figure of the Jin Dynasty. Sun Bu'er was one of the Seven True Disciples of the Northern Sect of Quanzhen Taoism. In Taoism, female immortals are honored as "Yuanjun" ("Primordial Lord"). Since this book was authored by Sun Bu'er and specifically focuses on female inner alchemy methods, it is titled Sun Bu'er Yuanjun Fayu.

Sun Bu'er (1119–1182), also known as Immortal Lady Sun, was a native of Ninghai. She was intelligent, strictly observant of rituals and ethics, skilled in calligraphy, and particularly adept at composing poems. She married Ma Danyang, with whom she had three sons, and was renowned for her wise upbringing of her children.

Sun Bu'er Yuanjun Fayu includes two sets of poems: The Stages of Kun Dao Practice (14 five-character poems) and Female Inner Alchemy (7 seven-character poems). All poems use verse to describe the techniques and internal experiences of female inner alchemy. The titles of the poems in The Stages of Kun Dao Practice follow a sequential order: Gathering the Mind, Cultivating Qi, Practicing the Work, Slaying the Dragon, Nurturing the Elixir, Embryonic Breathing, Talismanic Fire, Receiving the Medicine, Refining the Spirit, Ingesting the Elixir, Abstaining from Grains, Facing the Wall, Emanating the Spirit, and Ascending in Flight—these represent the progressive stages of female inner alchemy practice.

For a long time after its publication, Sun Bu'er Yuanjun Fayu had no annotations. In modern times, Mr. Chen Yingning wrote a detailed commentary on The Stages of Kun Dao Practice, titled Annotations on Sun Bu'er's Verses on the Stages of Female Inner Alchemy, in which he highly praised the work. He stated, "The original 14 poems, with their elegant diction and profound meaning, rank among the finest in alchemical texts." He also noted, "Throughout history, Sun Bu'er, the Ascetic of Pure Tranquility, has established the only true path [for female alchemy]." This underscores the dominant position of Sun Bu'er Yuanjun Fayu in the canon of female alchemical texts.
