What is Gezao Sect 阁皂宗?
Paul PengShare
The Gezao Sect, a branch of the Lingbao School in Taoism, is one of the three major talisman sects (the Maoshan Shangqing Sect, the Gezaoshan Lingbao Sect, and the Longhushan Tianshi Dao). With the Chongzhen Wanshou Palace on Gezao Mountain in Jiangxi as its dissemination center, it took shape in the Northern Song Dynasty and continued to spread through the Yuan and Ming Dynasties.

The Gezao Sect reveres Ge Xuan (164-244), a Taoist priest of the Three Kingdoms period, as its founder, honoring him as "Taiji Immortal Master Ge". Ge Hong (284-363) was a disciple of Ge Xuan's second generation. Ge Xuan and Ge Hong, being grandfather and grandson, are collectively known as the Ge Family Dao.
Due to the spiritual traces of Immortal Master Ge's cultivation on Gezao Mountain, it has become the ancestral court revered by Taoists of the Lingbao School.
