What is the Xiaoyao Jin 逍遥巾
Paul PengShare
Xiaoyao Jin (Free and Unfettered Scarf) is a square (or sometimes round) piece of fabric wrapped around the hair bun, with two long sword-tipped ribbons tied to it, hence the name. Another type is made by decorating Zhuangzi Jin (Zhuangzi Scarf) or Chunyang Jin (Pure Yang Scarf) with beautiful cloud-head patterns and attaching two long sword-tipped ribbons to the back of the hat, which is also called Xiaoyao Jin (anciently known as "Lei Jin" or Thunder Scarf).
Young Taoists like to wear this scarf. As they move, the ribbons flutter, giving them a free and elegant appearance. However, some elderly Taoist masters in certain temples consider wearing this scarf to be lacking in solemnity and have abolished its use.
