What is The Yujun Dao 于君道?

Yujun Dao is a Taoist sect that prevailed in the area of Eastern Wu during the late Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. It did not exist for a long time. Its founder, Yu Ji, was a famous Taoist priest in the Eastern Han Dynasty and one of the Taoist priests who taught The Taiping Jing (The Scripture of Great Peace). According to The Book of the Later Han·Biography of Xiang Kai, during the reign of Emperor Shun, Gong Chong, a disciple of Yu Ji, once went to the capital and presented The Taiping Jing. This indicates that Yujun Dao was related to Taiping Dao and was likely a branch of Taiping Dao.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Yujun Dao spread to Eastern Wu. According to The Records of the Three Kingdoms·Biography of Sun Ce with annotations quoted from Jiangbiao Zhuan (Records of the Jiangbiao Region): "At that time, there was a Taoist priest Yu Ji from Langya, who had previously resided in the east, traveling between Wu and Kuaiji. He set up a hermitage, burned incense, read Taoist books, and made talisman water to cure diseases. Many people in Wu and Kuaiji believed in him." To prevent Yu Ji from "deluding the hearts of the people with illusions", Sun Ce had him killed. It is said that this Taoist priest "Yu Ji" was preaching under the pretext of the name of Yu Ji from the Eastern Han Dynasty.

After his death, his believers did not think he was dead; instead, they claimed that he had undergone shijie (a form of Taoist ascension where the body is discarded like a shell) and continued to worship him to pray for blessings. Later, Yujun Dao gradually declined. Even if it still circulated among the people, it had basically merged into Tianshi Dao (Celestial Master Dao).
