Quanyangzi refers to Yu Yan, a renowned scholar during the transition between the Song and Yuan dynasties.

The existing version is included in the Jade Instructions Category of the Dongzhen Section within the Daoist Canon (The Daozang).
The Qinyuanchun ci-poems are traditionally believed to be composed by Lü Dongbin, the True Person Chunyang, expounding the methods of Internal Alchemy. Yu Yan’s annotations quote alchemical texts from both the Northern and Southern branches of the Quanzhen School, illuminating the original meaning of the ci-poems in a concise and accessible manner.
