Hagiography of Dong's Immortal Encounter
This book narrates the story of True Man Dong’s encounter with immortals and attainment of the Dao. Born with the surname Shuhu, given name Shouzhi, courtesy name Kuanfu and art name the Master of Ningyang, True Man Dong was a Jurchen (Jin people). He was born in the fifth year of the Zhenglong reign of the Jin Dynasty (1160) and passed away in the fourth year of the Zhengda reign (1227). It is said that he suffered from various illnesses in his early years, and later was enlightened by three immortals: Zhongli Quan, Lü Dongbin and Liu Haichan, who bestowed talisman water and elixir upon him. Having recovered from his illnesses, he comprehended the Dao and became a monk, wandering between the Qin and Long regions. Subsequently, the three immortals taught him the secrets of Internal Alchemy cultivation. From then on, his merits and practices advanced steadily, and he ultimately attained immortality. This True Man Dong was a Taoist priest of the Quanzhen school in the Jin Dynasty.
