Its doctrines center on preserving the original true nature in its entirety, holding that the study of Quanzhen delves directly into the profound mystery of the Dao, a pure illumination of the supreme ultimate Dao.

"If one seals the mind with the void and awakens to one’s original true nature, the true self will be preserved in wholeness; the way of the Golden Elixir will be fully embodied, and the foundation of its essential tenets will be established."
It also refers to the elixir refinement process as the "Seven Returns to Seven Truths", which unfolds in seven stages: mutual regard of form and spirit, the initial attainment of truth upon entering the Dao; mutual companionship of form and spirit, named the acquisition of truth; mutual integration of form and spirit, named the guarding of truth; mutual embrace of form and spirit, named the perfection of truth (Quanzhen); the subtle transfiguration of both form and spirit, uniting with the Dao and attaining truth; mutual transcendence of form and spirit, named the verification of truth; and the universal salvation of later practitioners, awakening others to truth through one’s own true enlightenment. Each stage is depicted with a diagram and explained with a seven-character jueju eulogy.
