Jade Emperor's Heart-Seal Scripture 高上玉皇心印经

Also known as The Mind Seal Scripture for short. The author is unknown. It was presumably compiled between the Tang and Song dynasties.

Consisting of one volume, it is included in the Ben Wen (Original Text) category of The Dongzhen Section in The Daozang.

Jade Emperor's Heart-Seal Scripture

Written in four-character rhymed verses, the entire text contains only fifty lines, expounding the mental method of Internal Alchemy cultivation. It regards essence, spirit, and qi as the three supreme elixirs, stating: "Every person possesses essence; essence unites with spirit, spirit unites with qi, qi unites with true reality. What does not attain true reality is merely an imposed name." It further says: "The three categories share one principle, too subtle to be heard; when they gather, there is form; when they disperse, there is spirituality"; "Attaining the elixir brings spirituality; failing to attain it leads to collapse. The elixir abides within the body, neither white nor blue." Since the Song and Yuan dynasties, this scripture has been widely popular. The Quanzhen Dao included it in the Five Scriptures of Internal Cultivation, and modern Taoism designates it as one of the scriptures that must be recited in the morning ritual practice.

A great number of carved editions and annotated versions exist today.
