Li Daochun's Commentary on the Supreme Scarlet Scripture

This work is an annotated version of The Red Text Cave Antiquity Scripture, and its scripture text is identical to the version annotated by Changquanzi. Li’s annotations incorporate the doctrines of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. He first annotated the scripture verse by verse, and then summarized the essential purport of each chapter. The annotations state: "To move within non-movement, to act within non-action; to forget the body internally, to forget sounds and colors externally; to nourish the formless, to uphold the insubstantial; to perfect one’s original true nature, to transcend beyond emptiness—this is the supreme vehicle, the highest of the highest with nothing above it, hence the name 'Supreme'." It also states: "To embrace the origin and return to the root, to enter the imperceptible; then the empty Qi will shine brilliantly, pervading heaven and earth, radiating light everywhere, hence the name 'Red Text'." It further states: "To forget the eyes and dull the ears, to withdraw perception and listen inward... this is called clear illumination; only then can one attain the wonderful truth, observe all things unimpeded, and understand the primeval beginning, hence the name 'Cave Antiquity'." It additionally states: "To directly reach the true realm of emptiness, to roam together in the primordial state before heaven and earth, hence the name 'True Scripture'." The above explains the title of the scripture, which is the essential purport of the entire text.
