Qingwei Lineage of Immortals

Compiled by Chen Cai, a Taoist priest of the Qingwei Sect in the Yuan Dynasty.

One scroll, included in the Genealogy category of the Dongzhen Section of What is The Daozang.

Qingwei Lineage of Immortals

At the beginning of the scroll is the author’s preface written in the Guisi year of the Zhiyuan reign (1293), which states: the Qingwei Sect of Daoism “began with the Primordial Lord; the second transmission was to the Jade Chen and Lord Lao; then further transmission branched into the four lineages of Zhenyuan, Taihua, Guanling, and Zhengyi. After ten transmissions to Ancestral Lady Zhaoning, they merged again into one.”

Ancestral Lady refers to Zu Shu, a Taoist priest from Guangxi in the late Tang Dynasty and the founder of the Qingwei Sect. His teachings passed down through eight generations to Nan Bidao, the Perfected Hunyin, who then transmitted them to Huang Shunshen, Master Lei Kun. The author Chen Cai refers to himself as a disciple of Huang Shunshen, having personally received the Qingwei Dao methods, and thus compiled and published this book.

The entire book is divided into six sections, outlining the origin and transmission lineage of the Qingwei Sect.

The first section, Origin of the Qingwei Dao, lists more than twenty deities including the Primordial Lord.

The second, Origins of the Upper Clarity, lists more than ten deities including the Great Lord Jade Chen.

The third, Fundamental Purpose of Lingbao, records nine deities including the Lingbao Heavenly Lord.

The fourth, Orthodox Lineage of Dao and Virtue, records six deities including the Xuan Yuan Lord Lao.

The fifth, Origin of Zhengyi, records seven deities including the Heavenly Master Zhang Daoling.

The above five lineages are all fabricated origins claimed by the Qingwei Sect and are not reliable history.

The sixth and final section, Union of the Dao, records the life stories and transmission lineage of eleven masters of the Qingwei Sect from Ancestral Lady Zhaoning (Zu Shu) to Huang Shunshen of the Yuan Dynasty. Although this section still contains questionable points, it is generally credible.
