Supreme Sacred Canon of Inner Vision

Author unknown, presumably compiled between the The Tang Dynasty and the Song Dynasty.

Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Scripture Text category of the The Dongzhen Section within The Daozang.

The scripture was originally attributed to "the Purple Radiance Heavenly Mother, the Great Sage Queen of the Primordial Heavenly Sphere of the Great Luo True Heaven, who transmitted it to the mortal world". It fabricates an account of the Primordial Supreme True Great Sage manifesting in the mysterious void of the Great Brahma True Heaven, "transforming various external forms to reveal the inner vision".
Supreme Sacred Canon of Inner Vision
The True Sage divided the vital qi into nine parts of the East, seven parts of the West, three parts of the South and five parts of the North, with the residual qi of the four directions distributed in the Center. These various qi correspond to the five zang-organs of the human body—the liver, lungs, heart, kidneys and spleen—and also to the five perceptions: the soul, the spirit, the mind, the essence and the thought respectively.

The five zang-organs and five perceptions "together embody the Ten True Essences; the essential splendor of the Ten True Essences can form the Nine Transmutations, condensing into Golden Elixir and dissolving into sweet dew. Circulating up and down the body, they refine and nurture all the bones and limbs, cleanse the turbid and retain the clear, dispel yin and forge yang". This practice enables one to "return to one’s primal origin and preserve one’s complete true nature", and ultimately "transcend all mortal bones and ascend to the Shangqing Heaven". A gatha is appended at the end of the text, summarizing the essential tenets of the scripture.
