The Supreme Scripture of the Central Dipper the Great Chief for Preserving Life
The author is unknown. According to textual research, it was composed by Taoist priests in Sichuan in the early Song Dynasty.

Originally a chapter ofThe Five Dipper Scriptures, it was separated as an independent scripture in the version ofThe Daozangand included in the Original Text Category ofThe Dongshen Section.
This scripture purports that in the years of Yongshou, afterLaozitransmittedThe Divine Scripture of the Western Dipperto Heavenly MasterZhang Daolingof theZhengyi Dao, he bestowed this scripture further.
It proclaims that each of the Five Dippers holds its own divine duty, stating that"The Eastern Dipper presides over karmic longevity accounts, the Western Dipper keeps records of mortal names and deeds, the Northern Dipper decrees mortal demise, the Southern Dipper grants mortal birth and longevity, and the Central Dipper the Great Chief stands lofty and supreme above all".
All mortal beings shall pay homage to the Great Sage of the Central Dipper in accordance with Taoist rituals, contemplate with sincere devotion and pray earnestly to fulfill their heartfelt wishes."As long as one upholds and enshrines this scripture with solemn reverence: on the days afflicted by calamities, or on one’s natal birthday, or on the auspicious occasions of the Three Primes and Eight Assemblies, set up a pure altar, offer seasonal fruits, rare flowers and precious incense in worship, perform the Taoist rituals and declarations, purify one’s body and mind, invoke the true sacred deities, and hold ritual ceremonies to repent for karmic sins. The true sacred deities shall be gratified, bestowing increased longevity and prolonged lifespan, and granting all sincere prayers and wishes."
