The Supreme Mysterious Numinous Northern Dipper Scripture of Innate Fate for Prolonging Life
The original text bears no author’s name. According to textual research, it was composed by Taoist priests in Sichuan in the early Northern Song Dynasty.
It was originally one chapter of The Five Dipper Scriptures, yet the version in The Daozang is separated as an independent scripture, and included in the Original Text Category of The Dongshen Section.
This scripture purports that in the first year of Yongshou during the Eastern Han Dynasty, Laozi descended to impart the text to Heavenly Master Zhang Daoling. It states that all the Star Lords of the Northern Dipper oversee and judge the good and evil deeds, merits and misfortunes of mortal beings, bestowing blessings and dispelling calamities for them. Every mortal’s life, physical form and mortal destiny are all under the governance of their natal Star Lord.
Mortal beings should purify their body and mind, burn incense and recite this scripture, kowtow to their natal Star Lord on their birthday and all fasting days. They may also hold Taoist rituals and offer sacrifices according to their capacity, and chant the sacred names of the True Lords. By doing so, they shall eradicate their karmic sins, attain blessings and longevity, and be forever freed from samsara.
