The Celestial Southern Dipper Salvation FULL NAME IS
The Supreme Scripture of the Six Southern Dipper Ministries for Extending Lifespan and Redeeming Beings
The author is unknown. According to textual research, it was composed by Taoist priests in Sichuan in the early Song Dynasty.
Originally a chapter of The Five Dipper Scriptures, it was separated as an independent scripture in the version of The Daozang and included in the Original Text Category of The Dongshen Section.
This scripture purports that in the first year of Yongshou of the Han Dynasty, Laozi expounded this scripture to Zhang Daoling in Shu Commandery. It proclaims that the Seven Governing Stars of the Northern Dipper and the Six Ministries of the Southern Dipper hold sway over water and fire respectively. "They assign the ranks and nobility of heaven and mortal realms, increase or diminish the blessings and livelihood of nobles and common folks, lengthen or shorten mortal lifespans, dispense or withhold calamities and bliss — all mortal fortunes rest entirely with their bestowal and deprivation."
Therefore, all mortal beings shall venerate the Dipper Stars with sincere devotion and pray for their blessing and protection. By submitting Taoist memorials and prayers, and holding ritual ceremonies to offer supplications, one can dispel disasters, relieve tribulations, prolong one’s years and attain eternal life. This scripture contains six Talismans of the Southern Dipper; wearing them in accordance with the teachings shall "grant the wearer longevity and shield them from all misfortunes and calamities".
